The story or Wizard Wine is a classic UK high-street business tale.  John Apthorp founded the Bejam frozen food chain, which was acquired by Iceland in January 1989.  In September 1991, Wizard Wine (initially opened in some former Bejam locations) was sold off by Iceland to John Apthorp, Tim How, and partners, who subsequently purchased the heavily indebted Majestic Wine in a leveraged buyout, merging them into what became a major high-street wine specialist.
