In 1830, at 19 years of age, William Teacher left his job as a cotton mill worker and began selling whisky in Glasgow Scotland. By 1832 he had had opened a "Dram Shop" on Piccadilly Street, and a few years later it was 20 shops with bottle sales as well. He involved his sons in the business, and decades, bottling operations and distilleries later Teachers would become the second highest selling whisky in the UK.
