Old Forester, created by former pharmaceutical salesman George Garvin Brown in 1870, is the longest continuously running bourbon today. It was one of the few brands allowed to continue production during Prohibition, selling its bourbon as "medicinal whiskey". This was nothing new to Brown and the Old Forester brand, as the bourbon was the first to be sold in bottled-form-only, mainly through doctors' offices and pharmacies as they believed that the sealed-bottle approach guarded against adulteration and other shady tactics.
