Early Times was a brand that was created by Jack Beam and A.G. Nall in 1863. They wanted a sour mash bourbon that hearkened back to the Kentucky whiskeys made in decades past and thus the name "Early Times" was born. They built a distillery in Nelson County, KY and as their company grew built a new distillery a few miles away on the railroad spur a short distance away. This rail stop became known as Early Times Station.
After the deaths of Beam and Nall, and with interrupted distilling brought on by World War 1 and Prohibition, the distillery was sold to Brown-Forman who made Early Times one of the medicinal whiskeys they sold during prohibition. The brand did very well and when Prohibition ended production moved to a larger distillery in Shively, Kentucky. By 1953 Early Times was the best-selling bourbon in the U.S.
