This bottle of Elixir China was made just outside Lucca at the Certosa di Farneta where a Carthusian Monastery was built from 1327. The Order had been set up by Saint Bruno in 1084 near Voiron in the Chartreuse Mountains of the French Alps, the home of Chartreuse. On the reverse label P. P. stands for Personal Prelature, a designation for a body of believers who do not answer to a bishop or cardinal, but only to the Pope. CERTOSINI refers to the Carthusian monks at the Florentine monastery. This is a fascinating and rare bottle indeed!
