Founded in 1770, Chelsea Distillery for Liqueurs & Cordials was awarded Gold Medals at the Great International Exhibitions in London in both 1851 & 1862, and the Festival of the Empire Exhibition in 1911.  Humphrey Taylor & Co. was a distiller of liqueurs there from about 1813!  In addition to this Morella Cherry Whisky, Old Spirits Co. has stocked their Dry Orange Bitters and Old Pensioner London Dry Gin, with a Chelsea Pensioner in his red coat to the front label.  To this day the name Humphrey Taylor & Co. is used on a London Dry Gin produced at the Thames Distillery in the heart of the city of London by Master Distiller Charles Maxwell (Awarded with the 2015 IWSC Trophy, for the ‘Worlds’ Best Gin) and a Navy Strength Rum Old Dock Rum.

At the time this liqueur was produced, cherry was a favoured flavour and orchards could be found throughout the country!

Research has been done on the history of the firm:
