In it's Art Deco bottle, this "Fifth Avenue" Wine Cocktail from the recipe of John H. Dexter dates to the 1930s. It was produced in England by Empire Wines who were in turn owned by Garnett's Wine Merchants in Rotheram, Yorkshire.
The name "Green Goddess" is presumably drawn from the play of the same name by William Archer that was later made as a silent film in 1923 and then again in 1930, when it was directed by Alfred E. Green, produced by Warner Bros. using their new Vitaphone sound system, and adapted by Julien Josephson. It stars George Arliss, Alice Joyce, Ralph Forbes and H.B. Warner. Arliss and Ivan F. Simpson played the same parts in all three productions, while Joyce reprised her role from the earlier film.
