J B Chatterley & Sons Ltd. has been operational since the 1850s and was established in Birmingham by John Bishop Chatterley. John was a manufacturer of glass and japanned goods, however transitioned his company to crafting silver and electroplated items by 1894. The company was registered with John Bishop Chatterley as the managing director and his two sons, Albert Edward Chatterley and Frank Martin Chatterley; they have produced hallmarks in both Birmingham and Edinburgh.
Through their time of manufacturing, they have been known for their attention to detail and Celtic decoration, highlighting the company’s ability to create innovative designs. Their commitment to quality enables their items to be sought after by collectors, with the company still operating today with the same quality set out by its founder and being a respected name in the industry.
