Introduced in 1944, the Captain Morgan brand was produced by Seagram using rum from their Long Pond distillery in Jamaica. In 1984, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum was released in the United States. The dissolution of thee Canadian drinks giant in the early 2000s saw Captain Morgan procured by Diageo, and production of the European export version moved to Clarendon, with US versions distilled at a new St Croix distillery on the US Virgin Islands.

This Seagram era product is a blend of rum from Long Pond and Canadian rum distilled at the the company's Waterloo distillery in Ontario, which was shut down and converted into the Seagram Museum in 1984.
